Will my bill ever spike unexpectedly?

No. On the free tier, requests beyond your monthly limit are blocked automatically, not billed. On Pay As You Go, MapAtlas sends usage alerts before you approach your ceiling. Google Maps does not auto-cap spending when a budget alert fires, which led to widely reported billing shocks where developer costs jumped from $500 to $12,000 in a single month. MapAtlas is designed to prevent that scenario.

Is the free tier really free? Do I need a credit card?

Is MapAtlas GDPR compliant? Where is data stored?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MapAtlas stores all data in EU data centers. User location queries and IP addresses are not routed through US infrastructure. Google Maps processes requests on Google's global network, which creates compliance complications for EU-based businesses and apps subject to GDPR. MapAtlas was built as a European-first platform and is ready for EU compliance audits and DPAs.

Am I locked into a contract?

No. The free tier has no commitment by definition. Pay As You Go is month-to-month: you pay only for usage in the previous calendar month and can stop at any time with no cancellation fee.
